UK dairy giant Ilchester is launching two new vegan cheeses as demand for ‘healthier and tasty alternatives to dairy cheeses’ soars.
The latest release comes after the company got a phenomenal response when it introduced Ilchester Vegan Blue and the Ilchester Vegan Melting Mature alongside its iconic Applewood vegan cheese and Mexicana in its Vegan Festive Selection last Christmas.
Both the variants are free from dairy, lactose, soya, gluten, cholesterol and palm oil. They are also fortified with vitamin B12 and calcium to give supplementation to those following a plant-based diet.
They will be available to buy from 319 Tesco stores across the UK and online from 5 July. Their will retail for £3 and £2.30 respectively.
Vegan cheese
The Ilchester Vegan Blue Cheeze will feature unique blue spirulina veins to mimic the look of blue cheese. It will have the same creamy texture and sharp and salty taste as its dairy counterpart.
According to the famous Somerset cheesemonger, the new vegan cheese will go well with a wide array of foods, including vegan honey, fruits, wholegrain crackers, and nuts. It can also serve perfectly as the topping for vegan burgers cooked on barbecues this summer.
The Ilchester® Vegan Melting Mature is set to be THE mature vegan cheddar cheeze known for sharing the same meltability factor as dairy cheddar cheeses, something that vegans have often said lacks in other plant-based cheezes
It is also perfectly suited for vegan burgers, cheese on toast or Welsh rarebit toasties and of course, is the perfect choice for mac ‘n’ cheese.
Ilchester was founded in 1962 and is part of the Norseland portfolio of dairy and vegan cheeses, which includes the award-winning Applewood Vegan and Mexicana Vegan.
‘Healthier and tasty dairy cheese alternatives’
Lisa Harrison is the brand manager for Ilchester. She said: “We trialled the Ilchester Blue Vegan Cheeze and the Ilchester Melting Mature Vegan cheeze in our first-ever Ilchester Vegan Festive Selection last Christmas alongside the award-winning Applewood Vegan and Mexicana Vegan, and the cheezeboard proved so popular that the supermarkets that were stocking them put in more orders in the run-up to Christmas.”
“We know that the demand is there and that vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians alike are looking for healthier and tasty alternatives to dairy cheeses.
“Total Sales of Applewood Vegan are worth £4.2 million, and in the latest 52-week period, sales have grown by 301% on the last year, so we are confident that applying our winning formula to our two new cheezes will create more award-winning cheezes from the Norseland portfolio.”
