Planty Expands Frozen Plant-Based Menu With Five High-Protein Breakfast and Main Dishes

From vegconomist.com

UK meal delivery brand Planty has added five gluten-free dishes to its frozen plant-based range, including two types of pancakes and a tofu scramble for the breakfast occasion. The meals are sold online and delivered frozen across the UK.

“We’re taking the kind of food we love to eat and giving it the Planty treatment”

The breakfast line-up includes Cocoa Banana Pancakes, made with buckwheat, cocoa and peanut, at 292 kcal with 20g of protein and 7g of fibre. Mushroom & Scrambled Tofu combines tofu with roasted field mushrooms, spinach and kale, and provides 26g of protein and 7g of fibre in 268 kcal. A third breakfast dish, Tomato & Herb Pancakes, is listed at 271 kcal and described by the company as high in protein and fibre.

Two new mains

The other two launches are main meals. Shoyu Ramen pairs an umami broth with smoked tofu, broccoli, sweet potato, rice noodles and crunchy oil, delivering 31g of protein and 16g of fibre in 558 kcal. The Ham Hock Pot is Planty’s plant-based version of the British dish, made with giant chickpeas, smoky hock mushrooms and potato. At 638 kcal, it contains 30g of protein and 24g of fibre, the highest fibre content of the five new dishes.

According to the company, every meal is cooked from scratch by its chef team in London and flash frozen on the day it is made, with no preservatives.

A chef-led direct-to-consumer model

Planty was co-founded in 2019 by chef Joe Lovell, who previously worked in Gordon Ramsay’s kitchens, including at Michelin-starred Petrus. In 2023, the company reported that it had sold more than 300,000 meals and was shipping around 10,000 per month.

“When I started Planty, I wanted to prove that plant-based food could be genuinely exciting, satisfying and something you looked forward to eating – not something you chose because you thought you should. These new dishes are a great example of that.

“From a proper bowl of ramen to a ham hock pot, we’re taking the kind of food we love to eat and giving it the Planty treatment. Also, who knew frozen pancakes could taste so good too, you’ve got to try them to believe it!” said Lovell.
