'We have fans across the world,' pub serving up mouth-watering vegan food awarded

A pub has been recognised for serving up the best vegan chicken in the UK.

This year, PETA's 2025 Vegan Food Awards acknowledged The Queen Inn in Cwmbran, South Wales, for its spicy and tender Cajun Ch*cken Wings.

The meat-free pub has been serving its guests the popular dish with buttery mash, corn on the cob, and ranch.

It has been among the most popular restaurants serving vegan food for years, and turned to a fully meat-free menu in 2022 after a hugely successful Veganuary.

Owner Ryan Edwards and his family have been in charge of The Queen Inn for around two decades.

Mr Edwards said in 2023: "We’re busier than we’ve ever been before, having owned the business for almost 20 years.

"We have fans across the world, and many have travelled hours to support us.

"Every week we’ll chat to someone from Brighton, Blackpool, Scotland, etc.

"Sometimes even other countries, which seems so surreal for such a small traditional country pub."

The pub aims to be as inclusive as possible, not only catering to the vegan community but also ensuring their menu is nut-free, with 25 per cent of it being gluten-free.

Dogs are equally welcome, with special food options available, including a bowl of sausages, dog-friendly ice cream, and for the festive menu through December, a dog's (vegan) turkey dinner, complete with stuffing, peas, and gravy.

"Our menu often gets complaints for having too many exciting options," said Mr Edwards.

"We always offer at least three steaks; a 3D printed flank by Redefine Meat, a gluten-free filet mignon by Juicy Marbles, and a miso and garlic cauliflower steak, for people that don’t like plant-based meats."

The Queen Inn also serves up a variety of other dishes, including Hunter’s ch*cken, l*mb doner kebab, full rack of r*bs, and b*e lasagne.

The Queen Inn's recognition in the PETA Vegan Food Awards is a testimony to the growing popularity and success of innovative vegan foods.

PETA's vice president of vegan corporate projects, Dawn Carr, said: "The future of food is vegan.

"As more people seek out flavourful foods that are kind to animals, their bodies, and the planet, businesses are responding with exciting and delicious animal-free fare.

"Whether dining in or out, PETA’s winners show how easy and delicious it is to upgrade to vegan foods."

PETA has been championing the benefits of veganism, not only for the animals but also for the planet.

The animal rights organisation says that vegan foods have a smaller carbon footprint, whereas the meat and dairy industries are top producers of the greenhouse gases contributing to the climate catastrophe.

It says that eating vegan also lowers a person’s risk of developing heart disease and certain types of cancer.
