UK: Liverpool's best vegan and vegetarian restaurants with award-winning menus

From liverpoolecho.co.uk

There is a great selection of vegan and vegetarian options round the city

Long gone are the days vegan and vegetarian menus were considered dull and boring.. Liverpool has a fantastic selection of delicious restaurants, with many catering exclusively to vegan and veggie diets.

The vegan lifestyle is frequently promoted as a healthier alternative to meat-heavy omnivore diets. However, it's not all about steamed vegetables, rice and quinoa, as venues are focusing on great comfort food to attract customers.

Thankfully, you won't have to search far for healthy burgers, Buddha bowls and more. Not only can you find all your favourite dishes including loaded fries and stacked burgers, but some venues are receiving praise from critics nationwide for providing the best food around.

Here's our insider's guide to some of the city's top spots for vegans and vegetarians to dine out. The list isn't exhaustive, so do share your favourites in the comment section below.

Down the HatchDown the Hatch opened in 2018, as a vegetarian and vegan "junk food" restaurant. It's located in the city centre, down a set of blink-and-you'll-miss-them stairs on Duke Street. The restaurant boasts exposed brick walls and atmospheric mood lighting.

Its impressive menu has gained a loyal army of fans and even won "best vegan eatery" in the British Restaurant Awards.

    • SanskrutiTucked away in the business district, this vegetarian and vegan curry house is a hidden gem.

While most Indian restaurants are very veggie friendly Sanskruti has no meat or fish on the menu at all but does have dishes you’ve probably never heard of, including street food like kacchi dabeli and bateta vada, as well as main courses from Punjab, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

They claim you can’t find many of their dishes anywhere else in Liverpool.

      • Sanskruti, Bixteth St, Liverpool L3 9LP

If you're after tasty, dippy eggs that are entirely plant-based, then The Vibe is the place to visit. The rest of the menu is equally as impressive with comforting pasta dishes, bagels and more.
