U.S. tofu and plant-based food brand Hodo has launched a new Lightly Fried Tofu range in three on-trend flavours:
- Chili Crisp — Inspired by the cult-favourite Chinese condiment, this fiery variety features garlic, onion, and crispy chilies.
- Golden Turmeric — Contains turmeric, which has anti-inflammatory properties and provides a golden colour, combined with ginger and black pepper.
- Gochujang — A Korean-inspired variety with a balance of spicy, sweet, savoury, and fermented chili flavours.
The blocks of tofu are scored, lightly fried, and then marinated, allowing the sauces to coat every surface. The result is described as “bold, juicy, and seasoned tofu that is ready to eat and enjoy”.
All three varieties are made with organic, non-GMO, and gluten-free tofu. They have been launched in response to the soaring popularity of Asian flavours.

“Flying off the shelves”
Last year, Hodo launched a new line of “Saucy Tofu” meals in three flavours —Thai Red Curry, Japanese Teriyaki, and Korean BBQ. In January 2025, the company announced an expansion into leading grocery retailers Meijer, Harris Teeter, and Giant Martin’s, as consumer demand for less processed plant-based proteins continues to increase.
Hodo offers a variety of retail products, including entrees, dips, flavoured tofu blocks, tofu scramble, tofu veggie burgers, and nuggets.

Our new lightly fried tofu is flying off the shelves as we see strong initial reaction from consumers.”
The new tofu varieties are available at Erewhon, Woodman’s, The Fresh Market, MOM’s, Good Eggs, PCC Community Markets, and Berkeley Bowl.
