Vegan Nutella finally gets official UK launch date

From veganfoodandliving.com/news

Vegan Nutella officially launches in the UK from 25th May. Here's where to buy Nutella Plant-Based and how much it'll cost

After months of anticipation, Ferrero has confirmed that a plant-based version of its popular hazelnut spread, Nutella, will arrive in UK stores from 25 May 2025.

The new product, certified vegan by the Vegetarian Society, aims to offer the same flavour and texture as the original, using ingredients such as chickpeas and rice syrup in place of milk.

Nutella Plant-Based has been designed to meet the growing demand for vegan-friendly products. According to research cited by Ferrero, over a quarter of UK adults plan to include more plant-based foods in their diets by the end of this year.

According to a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, the new spread has been in development for some time.

“We developed this innovation to provide a delicious new choice that delivers the unmistakable Nutella experience in a plant-based version,” said Mathieu Maggi, Marketing Director for Nutella UK&I, adding that the aim was to keep the taste “without compromising on quality.”

Nutella Plant-Based will first hit the UK on shelves in Sainsbury’s, placed alongside the original version in the main spreads aisle.

To begin with, the 350g jar will be sold exclusively in Sainsbury’s with an expected RRP of £4.

Ferrero has announced plans to expand availability to other supermarkets across the UK from 2026.

Plant-Based Nutella UK launch

Rumours of a vegan Nutella alternative have circulated for years, with plant-based shoppers often turning to homemade or independent options to avoid dairy.

Official confirmation finally came in 2024 when the European launch of Nutella Plant-Based was announced.

The product made its first appearance in the brand’s home country of Italy in 2024, later launching in Germany for Veganuary 2025.

The UK launch marks the next major step for Ferrero as it continues to adapt its product line to changing consumer habits.

Vanessa Brown, The Vegetarian Society’s Head of Trademarks, confirmed that the product “meets the Vegetarian Society’s strict criteria for vegan accreditation.”

She expressed pleasure at announcing the news, stating: “One of the world’s most loved brands is now offering a plant-based option.”

Nutella Plant-Based is part of Ferrero’s broader aim to cater to more diverse dietary needs without abandoning its original recipe’s appeal. The company, which started as a small pastry shop in Italy in the 1940s, now sells products in over 170 countries.
