Manchester’s vegan scene is packed with delicious dining options perfect for everyone. Here are some top picks for plant-based eats across the city
Purezza (Northern Quarter)
This Brighton-born vegan Italian gem opened in Manchester in 2021, with a menu featuring sourdough pizzas, calzones, and indulgent sides like “Mac ‘n’ Cheese,” and even vegan cheese dough balls. There’s something for everyone, including gluten-free options. Their £15 lunch deal includes a 7″ Pizza, Small Plate and a Drink (including alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks), available Sunday to Friday before 5 p.m. Must-tries include the BBQ Bourbon Pizza or the Pepperoni and agave pizza, which pair perfectly with their indulgent tiramisu.
Little Aladdin (Northern Quarter)
This spot boasts affordable vegan fast food with curries, burgers, falafel, and wraps. Three curries with rice costs just £7.99. It is a great place to go if you are in need of a quick and tasty meal that won’t break the bank.
The Allotment (Cathedral Gates)
For upscale dining, the allotment offers food from a range of cuisines, specialising in small plates. They have a range of menus on offer such as tapas (3 for £18 or 5 for £30), afternoon tea (£16), or bottomless brunch (£30). They also have a lunch deal where you can get a soup and a sandwich for £10 or a coffee and cake for £6.95. I recommend going with someone and getting the sharing platter to sample a range of their dishes – the satay tofu skewers and cauliflower wings are my personal favourites.
Bundobust (Oxford Road & Piccadilly)
This Indian street food spot offers delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes and an amazing selection of craft beers. Their lunch express menu includes two dishes for only £10.50 (available Monday – Friday, 12-4 p.m.). If you want to try a bit of everything on their menu, share the vegan combo for 2 for £33. The okra fries are an amazing side dish and the mango lassi beer is delicious and refreshing.
The 8th Day (Oxford Road)
Part health food store, part café, The 8th Day serves hearty vegan soups, salads, and mains like their famed lentil dhal (£5.50). Their seasonal sweet treats and hot drinks make it a cosy spot for students to grab lunch near campus. If you’re there, it is worth stocking up in their store, which offers the largest selection of ethical, eco, veggie, vegan, organic, and Fairtrade products in the Northwest.
Herbivorous (Withington)
This vegan comfort food hotspot offers indulgent dishes like BBQ “ribs” and loaded mac and cheese alongside an array of delicious burgers and cheesesteak sandwiches. With a 15% student discount (Wednesday – Sunday) and £5 cocktails, it’s the perfect place to indulge in some vegan junk food.
Sanskruti (Withington)
Serving vegetarian and vegan Indian cuisine, Sanskruti offers everything from dosas to pan puris, and chaats to rich curries. They have an extensive menu that transverses the Indian sub-continent. Their vegan naan is a particularly delicious and rare find. Students can enjoy a 10% discount (all day Tuesday – Thursday and before 5 p.m. on weekends). All their dishes and cocktails are amazing (the coconut daiquiri is especially delicious)
Ice Shack (Withington)
For dessert, Ice Shack offers homemade vegan ice cream, cakes, hot drinks, and milkshakes. They also provide study spaces and events like movie nights and sip-and-paints. Try the tiramisu cake—it’s a crowd favourite. They also offer a midweek deal: unlimited teas and coffees with a slice of cake for only £6 (Wednesday – Friday 12-3 p.m.), making it a perfect place to study with a sweet treat. Their hot chocolates and milkshakes are decadent and delightful. All the ice creams and cakes are made in-house and the flavours regularly change.
Lotus Plant-Based Kitchen (Withington)
A favourite in Withington, Lotus Plant-Based Kitchen offers an extensive menu of Chinese-inspired vegan cuisine. From rice and noodle dishes to soups and vegetable mains, there’s plenty to explore. For mock meat fans, their options include vegan chicken, beef, duck, prawn, and even eel. Not a fan of mock meats? Their tofu, vegetable, and mushroom-based dishes won’t disappoint. Plus, it’s BYOB, making it an affordable and fun spot for casual dining with friends. I would recommend the salt and pepper chilli squid as well as the lamb and duck pancakes.
Whether you’re looking for fast food, comfort dishes, or indulgent desserts, Manchester has plenty of vegan-friendly options!
