Vegan hard-boiled eggs debut in major US retailer – here’s where to find them

Vegan hard-boiled eggs from start-up Crafty Counter are hitting the shelves in one of the biggest US supermarket chains

US start-up Crafty Counter has launched its vegan hard-boiled eggs in a major US retailer.

The female and BIPOC-owned company started back in 2018 to help ‘parents who wanted better food options for their families’.

Now it has secured a major listing for WunderEggs –  ‘the world’s first’ whole food, plant-based hard-boiled eggs.

The vegan eggs are made from a blend of almonds, cashews, and coconut milk. They are also free from cholesterol, soy, and gluten.

Founder Hema Reddy says the idea behind the product came after her whole ‘carnivore family’ embarked on a journey to veganism.

“It was then that I realized how much I missed eating eggs in various forms,” she said.

“After one and half years in development, we are proud to say that WunderEggs taste, feel and look very similar to a chicken egg. On top of that, they offer similar nutrition, minus the cholesterol.”

Now, Reddy has managed to bag a nationwide listing with Whole Foods, describing the deal as a ‘major pinch me moment’.

On Instagram, the company has been inundated with messages from customers who have not been able to find WunderEggs on the shelves.

Reddy recommends asking for the ‘Dairy Buyer’ at your local Whole Foods store. If they are unavailable, you can leave a request with the customer service desk.

“This section gets daily deliveries so it should be pretty quick to get the shelf stocked,” the company said.

“There’s power in community. We’re a small team and do not have the resources to deploy expensive merchandising staff.”
