From theveganreview.com
It’s a rather large area to cover, we know. But London has a special place in our hearts, and of course, many people often come here for the amazing vegan restaurants. So, we thought it would be pretty useful to create a list of what we feel constitutes some of the best vegan restaurants in London.
The range and variety of vegan restaurant in London is pretty huge. In fact, you can get everything here. But we recognise that certain restaurant names just pop up in conversation more than others and build a bit of a fan base. Of course, everyone’s version of “best” is different, and you may not agree with some of our inclusions. So, this is just our opinion.
We’ve tried to add a bit of variety so it’s not all the same type of food. And we’ve also tried to hit the four corners of the capital so hopefully the north, south, east and west all feel included.
Onto the best vegan restaurants in London…
Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner, Camden Market, North London
Recently expanding with the opening of its first vegan butchers in 2020, Rudy’s Dirty Vegan Diner can be found in Camden Market’s north yard. You’ll recognise it by the giant cow out the front!
Rudy’s is casual and friendly. Perfect for when you feel the need for a delicious burger and chips or something equally as comforting. Rudy’s offers dishes like Buffalo Chick’n burgers, Mac n Cheese, Philly Cheesesteak Hoagie Sandwiches, Dirty Dogz, Steak Frites and the best milkshakes around.
I’ve no idea what they do to their chips but they are EPIC. Highly recommend a visit to this place but bring with you your appetite!
There’s a lovely outdoor seating area where you can watch the hustle and bustle of Camden market.
One reviewer comments that Rudy’s offers “some of the best vegan food in London” and we couldn’t agree more.
Farmacy, Notting Hill, West London
Such a pretty setting, a lovely open restaurant and really friendly staff. Launched in 2016, Farmacy aims to offer a colourful and beautiful menu of healthy and seasonal foods. Each dish is picture perfect. We love this venue for a fun evening with friends, a special occasion or a treat brunch/lunch/dinner out.
One reviewer stated: “The food here is outstanding! We came for brunch. We wanted vegan food free of chemicals and additives. We got a lot more than that.”
Mildred’s, Various locations across London
Ahhh Mildred’s. Probably one of the better known vegan restaurants in London because of its unique style, delicious food and addictive atmosphere. It’s a ‘go to’ restaurant when you want to meet up with friends, it’s perfect for dates, or really very much any occasion. I’ve seen people dressed up in there, and others more casual. Everyone is welcome. The all day menu has some gorgeously elaborate sounding dishes such as “gunpowder bonda, pea spinach & potato fritters, mango pickle yoghurt.” But in addition, Mildred’s has amazing bowl foods, noodles, you name it and they master it. A true pleasure to visit.
Holy Carrot, Knightsbridge, South London
The Holy Carrot restaurant is beautiful! It feels very warm and inviting with a homely feel about the dining area. The team create dishes from ethically sourced and seasonal produce with a broad range of dishes such as vegan “tuna maki” to Holy Carrot Classics, for example Sexy Tofu or Parsnip Root Risotto. The brunch menu is fab and includes Apple and Cinnamon Pancakes, “Smoked Salmon Hash” as well as larger dishes and even desserts. Brunch runs til 5pm so there’s no need to rush for your favourites.
Lele’s, Brixton, East London
Starting out as a vegetarian cafe, Lele’s turned fully vegan in 2017. The owner, Valentina, grew up in an Italian family so wanted to replicate that familiar culture where people could share food and good company. And so was born this beautiful cafe. So popular are Lele’s cakes that you can now buy a range of them in ready to mix form.
We recommend coming here if you want somewhere comfy, friendly, beautiful smelling (a bakery smell is the best) and that will leave you with a smile on your face. We love Lele’s.
This reviewer’s comment is so lovely: “This place is quirky with super lovely staff and the most tasty vegan food ever! I literally stay in east London, whenever i’m in town, just for this place!!”
Wulf and Lamb, South London
With venues in Chelsea and Marylebone, Wulf and Lamb offers classic comfort food throughout the day. It takes inspiration from around the world, finding unique ways to reshake traditional dishes. The restaurant is minimal but appealing, not to formal and with a friendly atmosphere. Dishes include mains such as Chilli Non Carne, Glazed Miso Aubergine, Open Burrito, or perhaps you’d prefer a Tofu Chimichurri Salad. You’re bound to find a favourite dessert such as Chocolate Mousse or Strawberry Cheesecake.
Known for its Mac N Cheese, we’re not surprised by reviews such as this: “The customer service was excellent, and the food even better. The truffle mac & cheese is excellent.”
Love Shack, Hackney, East London
“Our mission with Love Shack is to take over the world (in a very nice way) by becoming a global space for positive disruption, social action & universal love.”
I mean, what’s not to love?!
Love Shack is such a chill place but with the most gorgeous menu around. For mains, you can have things such as Spicy Thai Peanut, Coconut and Lime Ramen, Magical Mushroom Risotto or smaller dishes such as No Sin Duck or Cauliflower Cheese. The cocktail list is awesome but equally, so is the smoothie list. Norris the Boss Sea Moss, anyone?
Purezza, Camden North London
THE place for vegan pizzas. Founded by Tim Barclay, Stefania Evangelisti and Filippo Rosato, Purezza first opened its doors in Brighton in 2015. Now it holds venues in Brighton, Hove, Camden, Manchester and Bristol which is very much testament to how awesome their food really is. Award-winning, sustainably conscious and mostly organic, we can’t think of any reason not to visit this gem in the city. PS They also have a dog menu that include Ultimutt Meal Deals, Doggy Drinks and Poochy Pizza Slices!
Gauthier, Soho, Central London
Ok, so we’ve saved something super special for last. Gauthier is set in an unmodernised Regency townhouse in Soho. It’s stunning. It brings fine dining to the vegan world, adding a modern French twist to the menu.
You can sense the adoration and respect for food in everything about this setting. From the passionate service, to the order of courses and the sommeliers bringing wine to the table. The menu is as beautiful sounding as it is in presentation, and includes plates such as White Asparagus & Calcot Onion and Artichoke & Black Truffle Velouté.
So there we have it. The best vegan restaurants in London according to us. We’d love to hear what you think!
