Asda has won awards for its vegan and Free From products in the 2021 Quality Food Awards

Asda is celebrating success after scooping 113 gongs at the prestigious Quality Food Awards, including Retailer of the Year for the third year running.

As well as taking the Retailer of the Year title, Asda also claimed Vegan Retailer of the Year and Free From Retailer of the Year.

Asda also received awards for a plethora of individual products including its Vegan Cranberry & Chestnut Wreath, Vegan Katsu Kiev, Vegan Sausage Rolls Selection Pack, Vegan Chocolate Torte, and its Free From soft cheese alternative.

Sam Dickson, Asda’s Vice President of Own Brand commented: “We’re over the moon to be crowned Quality Retailer of the Year for the third year running.

“The ‘Q’ on products is the most recognisable mark of excellence for retailers so we’re really proud that so many of our products are worthy winners.

“At Asda, we strive to give all of our customers the very best, no matter their dietary requirement or preference, so winning Vegan and Free From Retailer of the Year is a real seal of approval for us.

“I want to say a huge thank you to all our colleagues and suppliers who make it their priority every day to bring our customers great quality products. As we head into December, these awards really are the icing on our Christmas cake.”

Asda’s vegan initiatives

In autumn 2020 Asda became the first supermarket to launch an ambient vegan aisle, providing vegans with an easy way to find all the snacks, treats, and cupboard essentials they could need in one place.

Also in 2020, Asda lowered the prices of its Free From range, making its vegan dairy alternatives more affordable.

Sustainability has also been on the agenda, with the opening of a low-waste sustainability store in Leeds.

In 2021, Asda trialled its fully vegan butchers counter at its Watford store.

The counter, named Veelicious, offered a range of innovative mock meats in the style of a typical in-store butcher.
