Thinking about cutting down on meat? Got a vegan relative coming over for a post-lockdown picnic? The world of plant based diets can seem a bit daunting but there's good news - there are so many accidentally vegan foods you've probably already tried.
And most of them are available from your local Asda or Tesco.
In reports released earlier this year figures show a 40 per cent increase in the number of people following a vegan diet.
The research, by shopping comparison site, finder.com, said an increasing number of Brits changed their diet in 2020. They either went veggie, pescatarian, or vegan.
According to Plant Based News, it said the diet that ‘saw the most new recruits’ was veganism, with findings showing that approximately 1.1 million people followed a plant-based diet at the beginning of 2020.
However now, that figure is closer to 1.5 million people - equivalent to three percent of the population or a 40 per cent increase.
But when it comes to plant based eating, it can be difficult to know what is and isn't okay to pick up of the shelves - and not spend an absolute fortune in the process.
Of course there are the loud and proud vegan products, or semi sufficient 'free from' items - but these can often cost a fair few bob, so what can we buy that makes vegan eating, a little more accessible.
