Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink admits she was influenced by Woody Harrelson to go vegan after working with him on a film when she was 14

18-year-old Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink has revealed in a recent Glamour interview that she went vegan after Woody Harrelson showed her veganism was ‘totally doable’.

The young starlet met Harrelson – a vegan veteran – almost five years ago whilst filming a movie where he played her father.

Sink explained, “He’s a very passionate vegan and his entire family is vegan as well, so by spending time with them, I was able to learn that a vegan lifestyle is totally doable and it’s not as hard as it may seem.”

“His daughter and I had a three-day sleepover. The entire time I was with them I felt good about what I was eating, and not like I was missing anything.”

Before meeting Harrelson she was vegetarian, but after discovering the horrors of the egg and dairy industries, she decided “That’s it! Going vegan!” and cut out animal products immediately.

Sink told Glamour magazine that she’s from a ‘big meat-eating family’ in Texas, so making the leap to go vegan was a scary step for her. But five years on, the star is thriving.

‘Everything helps’

While the young star is a committed vegan herself, she recognises that not everyone can go fully vegan.

“If the vegan diet doesn’t work out for you, at least you can do something for animals – whether that’s the way you eat, or the way you dress, everything helps really.”

“There’s a lot of vegan options out there, like more than you think.” She added encouragingly.

This is a refreshing mindset for someone so young, and we love that Sink encourages her fans to just do what they can, rather than feel pressured to go fully vegan overnight.

A vegan lifestyle, not just a diet

Sink also emphasised the need to pay attention to clothing and other lifestyle items, not just food.

“It’s crazy because they’ll find ways to sneak in animal products or animal-based clothing items into your clothes, so I guess just kind of like do your research.”

“I had to look at lists of what materials contain animal-based materials inside of the clothing items,” she explained.

Woody Harrelson and veganism

Harrelson has been vegan for over 30 years and is a very vocal animal activist.

In 2019, he joined forces with Million Dollar Vegan to urge the pope to go vegan for Lent and has since worked with the charity on numerous campaigns.

Moreover, the actor hasn’t just converted the lovely Sadie Sink, he also influenced Thandie Newton and Liam Hemsworth on film sets Solo: A Star Wars Story and The Hunger Games respectively.
