100% vegan Asian-inspired restaurant BangBao opens in Brighton

New vegan Asian-inspired restaurant BangBao has opened in Brighton, and it's already proving a hit with locals

Named the most vegan-friendly city in the UK, Brighton is something of a sounding board for vegan innovation.

With 100% vegan fried chicken shops, doner kebabs and sushi burritos, there’s something for everyone in the seaside town.

Now, Brighton has a new vegan Asian-inspired restaurant, and it’s bursting with indistinguishable mock meats.

Chefs Amy and Dominic opened BangBao in the iconic North Laines after deciding that working in a vegetarian restaurant didn’t quite align with their morals. After just four months of planning, the duo opened BangBao, well, with a bang, and it’s already proving a hit with the locals.

On the menu, you can find Indonesian style pork belly bao buns, featuring homemade ‘pork’ created from scratch by Dominic using tofu and tapioca (and a secret blend of spices.)

BangBao also serves up roast ‘beef’ made from seitan, Korean fried chicken, and curry loaded fries. If you have a sweet tooth, be sure to try the raw cookie dough bites made from a blend of coconut oil, matcha powder and cacao nibs.

‘An unforgettable dining experience’

Writing on their website, the young entrepreneurs state:

“We want to make sure we do everything in the most sustainable way, educate our customers as much as possible about the mind-blowing and inspiring world of vegan food, and give everyone that walks through our doors an experience that they won’t forget.

“There is a common saying in the world of veganism that ‘taking an animal’s life is not worth the meal that you will forget about in a week.

“Here at BangBao, no animal lives are ever harmed and you will remember your meal with us next week, and the week after that, (you get the idea).

“Whether you’re a meat-eater or a lifelong vegan, we’re confident you’ll have an unforgettable dining experience.”

Environmentally-conscious

Aside from being 100% vegan, Amy and Dominic also wanted their restaurant to be environmentally sustainable.

BangBao serves up all its takeaways in environmentally friendly packaging made from recycled materials sourced in the UK, so you can eat your Asian-inspired grub with a clean conscience.

Moreover, the duo sources their vegetables from local producers in East Sussex, in a commendable effort to reduce food miles.

BangBao is currently open for takeaways via UberEats.
