Wimpy has launched a vegan burger! As the UK’s oldest burger chain, Wimpy is somewhat a British treasure and has focused on the traditional meat offerings at their outlets.
Now, Wimpy has catapulted into the vegan sphere just in time for Veganuary with a limited-edition plant-based burger. With a satiating Beyond Meat patty, lettuce, tomato and vegan mayo encased in a vegan brioche bun, we think Wimpy is onto a winner.
How can you go wrong with such a classic combo?
Selected stores
The new burger is currently only available at selected stores on a trial basis, however, the chain says it may become a permanent addition if successful.
Wimpy is taking precautions to prevent cross-contamination, cooking the burgers on a separate grill with separate tongs. Cross-contamination is something Nandos came under fire for upon the release of their ‘Great Imitator‘ with many vegans vowing to boycott the new product.
‘Built for our meat-free fans’
Wimpy proudly declared on their website: “We’re excited to launch a brand-new burger built for our meat-free and flexitarian fans!”
“Carefully prepared and individually cooked to order, the Beyond Meat patty combines pea and rice protein, with extracts of potato, apple, beetroot, pomegranate, carrot, and lemon juice, to create the perfect blend of flavours.”
The chain is not the only one using Beyond Meat as a vegan option, many other restaurants have also opted for the meaty alternative. Honest Burgers and Lewis Hamilton backed Neat Burger have had great success with their Beyond Meat burgers. Neat Burger even won the title of Best Vegan Offering at the Deliveroo Awards 2020.
The Vegan Burger is priced at £6.95, with the option of adding chips for just £2.49. Check your local Wimpy for the Vegan Burger today!
