With Legacy in Mind, King Charles Is Pressed to Go Vegan for the Planet

From peta.org.uk

London – Ahead of the launch of King Charles’ new Amazon documentary Finding Harmony: A King’s Vision (6 Feb ), and as he reflects publicly on the legacy he hopes to leave, PETA’s Founder Ingrid Newkirk has rushed a letter to the monarch, urging him to make the one change that scientists agree makes the biggest difference to an individual’s environmental footprint: eat vegan.

In the letter (available here), Newkirk highlights that vegan foods have a smaller carbon footprint, while the meat and dairy industries are top producers of greenhouse gases that contribute to the climate catastrophe.

“If King Charles truly wants to leave the planet in a better, greener place, as we believe he does, he must set an example for the nation and decide to go vegan,” says PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk. “The human appetite for flesh and other bits and pieces from cows, chickens, and the rest is condemning us to climate catastrophe, but the solution is clear: reduce your detrimental impact on the environment by moving away from animal-based diets.”

In addition, PETA notes in today’s meat, egg, dairy, and fishing industries, cows are forcibly separated from their beloved calves, chickens’ throats are cut while they’re still conscious, piglets’ tails are docked without painkillers, and fish are cut open while they’re still alive. Eating vegan also lowers a person’s risk of developing heart disease and certain types of cancer and helps save the lives of nearly 200 animals each year.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way” – points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Vegan Starter Kits. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow PETA on XFacebook, or Instagram.
