Good news for folks who are lactose-intolerant but love ice cream — Ben & Jerry’s has added two new flavours, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chocolate Caramel Cluster, to its line of dairy-free, vegan-friendly ice cream.
Unlike the usual ice cream which is made with full cream milk, Ben & Jerry’s dairy-free flavours are made with almond milk. The Choc Chip Cookie Dough flavour has vanilla ice cream mixed with choc chip cookie dough and crunchy fudge flakes, while the Chocolate Caramel Cluster comprises choc ice cream swirled with salted caramel and studded with peanuts and fudge chunks. We do a taste test for both flavours and tell you if they’re good.

Chocolate Caramel Cluster, $14.90
Despite being made with almond milk (it has lower fat content than whole milk, which is usually used for creamier ice cream), this dairy-free ice cream still tastes pretty similar to a regular, good quality choc version. We couldn’t really taste the salted caramel in this (the chocolate flavour overpowers it), but we enjoy crunching on the gigantic peanuts and fudge bits dotting the choc ice cream.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, $14.90
While we like the Chocolate Caramel Cluster flavour, we can’t really say the same about the cookie dough one. The gritty, almond-scented vanilla ice cream is too sweet (it tastes almost like marzipan), and has none of the crunchiness and body of its choc counterpart. If you’re looking for dairy-free ice cream that tastes like a milky version, this is not it.
