Cathedral City launches Plant Based Smokey Cheddar cheese

From veganfoodandliving.com

The Cathedral City Smokey Block has been launched following a 65% increase in sales of the brand’s plant-based cheese range.

Two years after the launch of Cathedral City’s Our Plant Based Cheddar Style cheese, the brand is extending its vegan selection even further with Cathedral City Smokey Cheddar Flavour block.

Recent sales of smoked cheese – both dairy and plant-based – have increased dramatically, which has led the brand to develop a vegan version of its popular Our Naturally Smoked Cheddar.

In a bid to make the cheese as similar as possible to its dairy counterpart, Cathedral City has used traditional methods to create a creamy, smoky cheese that’s free from dairy. It’s perfect for vegans, or anyone wanting to go dairy-free.

In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Christopher Owens – Head of Marketing for Plant-Based at Saputo Dairy UK – said: “Cathedral City is the only major brand to bring a plant-based smoky product to UK supermarkets made using naturally smoked water, rather than artificial flavourings.”

Cathedral City’s Plant Based range

According to the brand, plant-based alternatives to cheese are now worth £42.2m, with 8% of UK households purchasing them. It’s therefore unsurprising that Cathedral City is continuing to expand into this lucrative market.

The new smoked flavour joins the Our Plant Based range which includes Mature Cheddar-Style Block, grated cheese and sandwich slices. Last year, Cathedral City spreadable cheese alternatives were introduced, including a Spring Onion & Cracked Black Pepper flavour.

Cathedral City Plant-Based Smokey Cheddar is available exclusively at Tesco stores, priced at an RRP of £3.60.
