Discussing the product in a statement, Chef Nate Park, director of product development for JUST Egg, said the team was proud of the new product and how easy it is to use.
He explained: “Developing innovative and delicious new ways to eat JUST Egg is at the core of what our team does every day.
“I’m immensely proud of this new product because it gives people a simple and quick way to enjoy a wholesome and flavourful plant-based meal to start the day.
“We were thrilled to partner with Fly By Jing to add a bold, savoury spice to the dish, which ties it all together.”
JUST Egg
JUST EGG is a vegan egg replacement made from mung bean protein. It is sold in liquid form, and cooks like egg in dishes like scrambles, omelettes, quiches and bakes.
It was launched in the US in 2019, and has started rolling out across other countries.
Describing the product, JUST CEO Josh Tetrick said it offered myriad benefits over chicken's eggs.
He said: “It is more healthy, you don’t need the chicken. In order to eat an animal product, you need to slaughter, you need to use antibiotics, you need to tear down the rainforest. Or maybe this used to be the case, it’s not anymore.”
Vegan egg alternatives
While JUST Egg is not currently available in the UK, there are other plant-based options available in UK supermarkets.
Crack’d is a liquid egg replacer made from pea protein. Like JUST Egg, it is perfect for frittatas, omelettes, Yorkshire puddings and cakes.
A good alternative for baking is Oggs Aquafaba. Made from aquafaba (chickpea water), this liquid products whips up like egg whites.
Meanwhile, Orgran, which is made from a chickpea flour base, also offers an alternative which works in scrambled eggs, quiche, frittata and omelette recipes.
JUST Egg Meals can be found in the freezer section and will be priced at $7.99-$8.99.
