Clive’s Pies has launched two vegan quiches and a pie exclusively into a major UK retailer.
The Devon-based brand, which went 100 per cent vegan in 2020, has released its new vegan products into Waitrose stores. These are:
- Red Pepper Harissa Quiche with a pumpkin seed crumb (£4.25)
- Broccoli & Pesto Quiche with cashews, basil and pumpkin seeds (£2.65)
- Coronation Chickpea Puff Pie with creamy coconut and apricot (£3.50)
All three products are plant-based, certified organic, and come in plastic-free packaging.
The vegan quiche even features a plant-based window instead of traditional plastic, which Clive’s Pies says “sets us apart from the rest of the category”.
Innovation in the vegan quiche market
In a statement sent to Vegan Food & Living, Catherine Shacklock of Waitrose said: “We’re delighted to be the first supermarket to launch more of Clive’s tasty plant-based products.
“Customer reviews on our current Clive’s range shows great loyalty and we are really excited to share the next range of deliciously innovative development with them.”
Craig Blackborough, NPD Manager at Clive’s Pies, added: “Product development at Clive’s is a unique experience. Our new Red Pepper Harissa Quiche was created for sharing.
“We created the product based on trending flavour profiles to make it something you will want want to share with your family, friends and co-workers.
“Love is part of every product ingredient list, and we’ve put a lot of love and care into creating our products.”
A sustainable approach to packaging
The new plant-based window has been designed with sustainability in mind, so the products are environmentally aware as well as ethically sound.
On the development of this new packaging, the team at Clive’s explains: “We are super proud of the way our products look but customers couldn’t get a proper eyes on the pies before they opened the box. We wanted to pop a window on our scrummy new Red Pepper and Harissa Quiche and our re-worked Broccoli and Pesto Quiche so everyone could see the delicious new toppings.
“It is a natural and renewable material, certified as both home and industrial compostable and readily recycled alongside paper. So we have a window plus we are still respecting the planet wherever we can.”
