The £3 children's egg is perfect for little ones with allergies and intolerances

A popular free-from brand has finally launched their first ever children’s Easter egg. The release means that children who are vegan or suffer with intolerances will no longer miss out on a much loved chocolate treat.

The brand, called NOMO, has revealed the new Easter product which is gluten, dairy, egg and nut free, making it suitable for vegans, too.

The free-from creamy chocolate egg comes with a monster lolly, which is part of NOMO’s Kids Nomsters range, which is available in Sainsbury’s and Tesco stores.

My niece and nephew both suffer from dairy allergies, and even a small amount of milk in the batter of a chicken nugget can give them a poorly tummy.

Recently at school, my niece, who is seven, got a bit upset when a classmate was giving out chocolates for a birthday and she wasn’t able to have one. And it’s heart breaking to see a kid feel like they’re missing out on something that everyone else can enjoy.

NOMO’s motto is quite simply ‘no missing out’, which is something I really appreciate for the reason above.

The childrens’ egg sees three characters ‘Mo, Jo and Flo’ with their own chocolate egg and chocolate lolly, as well as six activities such as colouring in, jokes and puzzles inside the box.

The egg comes in at £3, and while it’s not huge, it’s ideal for small children, and the activities will be perfect for keeping them busy during the half term.

The new product launch comes as the prevalence of food allergies is 7.1 per cent in breastfed infants, with one in 40 developing peanut allergies and one in 20 developing an egg allergy, say NOMO.

The most common allergies that affect children are dairy, peanuts/tree nuts and eggs.

Jacqueline Tyrrell, brand manager at NOMO said: “Those who are vegan or free-from often find themselves missing out on seasonal moments like Easter. We want to take the angst out of these moments for children and parents, which is why we strive to make our products irresistible and inclusive to ensure no one misses out.

“We offer all the flavours and formats that are available in mainstream confectionery, so it is easier than ever to make direct swaps for those also wanting to trial a vegan diet.”

I also tried the brand’s vegan chocolate cookie dough bunny , which has an RRP of 80p, but ate 90p in Holland and Barrett. The non-dairy alternative to milk chocolate treats offered a rich chocolate taste more similar to dark chocolate, with crunchy cookie pieces that were a real delight.

And for adults who are vegan, suffer with allergies, or just want to share with little ones, there are also chocolate eggs one sale for £6 . There’s a vegan plain chocolate egg which comes in blue packaging, as well as a cookie dough edition in pink, which tastes similar to the chocolate bunnies.

While not specifically for Easter, the brand also stocks their NOMO dairy-free buttons in Sainsbury’s, which are perfect for sharing with a film during the bank holiday weekend.

Not only do they come in plain, but an amazing salted caramel for those looking for something a little sweeter.
